Technical specifications
FIPROPHOS 514 is a one-component liquid phosphodegreasing agent specially designed for the treatment of ferrous material, galvanised steel and aluminium. FIPROPHOS 514 creates an amorphous phosphatic layer of high compactness and 10 mgr/sq.m. thickness on the treated surfaces, which constitutes an excellent anchoring base for liquid, powder or electrophoretic paints. Correct use of the product requires subsequent continuous partial renewal rinsing and possibly a final rinse with demineralised water. A suitable final passivation further improves the corrosion resistance results.
.Usage and Applications
FIPROPHOS 514 is used as a pre-painting treatment, with superior performance to medium-weight phosphodegreasers, for ancillary parts in the automotive industry, household appliances, metal furniture and sheet metal products in general.

BATH PREPARATION
Fill the tank with clean mains water to approximately three-quarters of its volume
. Start recirculation pumps and bring to working temperature
. Add 15-60 kg (13-50 litres) of FIPROPHOS 514 per 1000 I of bath
Bring the liquor to the exact working volume and temperature, leaving it to recirculate for 15-20'
. Check the working parameters; it may be necessary to bring the pH value within the operating range, by small additions of ALCAFIP 250

Bathroom control
Rating (total acidity)
Take 10 ml of bath using a calibrated pipette, place in a 250 ml Erlenmeyer flask, add approx. 100 ml distilled water and 4 - 5 drops of Phenolphthalein indicator.
Titrate with Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) 0.1 N until colourless to pink stable for at least 20".
The number of ml of Sodium Hydroxide 0.1 N used to colour the sample represents the bath score. A bath of FIPROPHOS 514 prepared at a concentration of 20 g/l and brought to working pH, has a bath score of about 3.9.
PH determination
Take a bath sample (approx. 100 ml) and allow it to cool to approx. 20 °C. Determine the pH value, preferably with a pH meter previously calibrated to pH 4 and 7 (use of fluoride ion resistant electrode recommended).
Eventual corrections are made:
Fiprophos 514 or FIPROPLUS 709 or FIPROPLUS 710 (this product must be dosed in very small quantities)
can be used to lower the pH. With ALCAFIP 250 in small quantities to raise the pH
Power supply
The bath is fed with FIPROPHOS 514 according to the score (total acidity).
To obtain the concentration in g/lt multiply the value obtained by the fixed number 5.1.
Take the concentration to the required value by adding 5.1 kg of product per 1000 litres of bath for each missing point.
During ageing of the bath, a physiological increase in pH and/or score may occur. In this case, the bath feeding will be managed according to maintaining the pH value within the operating range until the bath is renewed.
Warnings
If oil build-up is observed on the surface of the bath, it is advisable to partially skim off the surface in order to avoid contamination of the treated material.
The use of stainless steel (preferably AISI 316 or 316 L) is recommended for baths and other parts of the system.
Stainless steel (preferably AISI 316 or 316 L) is recommended for baths and other parts of the system.
The pumps to be installed in the individual zones must have characteristics that ensure a spray pressure of at least 1.5 atm in all active phases, with the exception of final passivation, which allows a lower pressure (0.8 - 1 atm). Higher pressures may favour degreasing.
Prolonger exposure of FIPROPHOS 514 to light and heat may cause colour changes.
Mild differences in product appearance do not affect product efficiency and operational performance.
