Use and Applications
METALFIP 318 must be used in immersion tanks, diluted in water at variable percentages depending on the operating temperature.
Immerse the parts in the solution prepared in this way at temperatures between room temperature and 40 °C. During the cold season, the solution can be conveniently heated using rubber coils with steam passage, or Teflon-coated heating elements, so as not to excessively prolong the pickling times.
The immersion time can vary from a few minutes to over 1 or 2 hours, depending on the type of iron, its thickness, the type of oxide, and the temperature.
In order to avoid alterations in the bath, which would compromise its lifespan, the parts must be previously degreased.
Unlike pickling baths for stainless steel, baths for iron pickling are difficult to top up, and it is recommended to replace the bath once it is exhausted.
In any case, the lifespan of iron pickling baths rarely exceeds a few months.

Solution control
Take 10 ml of bath
Add 7/8 drops of METHYL ORANGE indicator
Titrate with 1 N NaOH until the solution turns from RED to YELLOW
The number of ml of 1 N NaOH consumed in the titration multiplied by “10” gives the concentration in g/l of the bath.
For example, a bath prepared at 12% (120 g/l) has a score of approximately 12.
For each missing point and for every 1000 liters of bath, add 10 kg of METALFIP 318.
