Technical specifications
ULTRAFIP 601 is a caustic alkaline liquid product formulated for degreasing stainless steel and ferrous materials. It is suitable for the removal of oils, greasy substances, and carbon residues. It can be used for the removal of phosphate coatings.
Being highly caustic, the product causes surface attack on non-ferrous alloys such as aluminum alloys or galvanized iron. Therefore, the use of ULTRAFIP 601 on these types of alloys is not recommended unless a light surface etching (priming effect) is desired for subsequent painting. In this case, the product must be rinsed thoroughly after degreasing.
To give the product greater detergency against oily contamination, it is advisable to use a detergent additive that the Fiprokim Technical Service will be able to suggest based on the cycle and operating conditions.
Use and Applications
ULTRAFIP 601 can be used by spray or immersion, under the following operating conditions:
Spray Immersion
Concentration (g/l) 10-12 30-50
Temperature (°C) 30-50 30-50
Time (min) 1-2 3-10
If the product is used as a dephosphating agent, concentrations must be between 60 and 80 g/l, with treatment times of at least 3 minutes at a temperature between 60 and 80 °C.

Bath control
Take 10 ml of the bath, place it in a flask (or beaker), and add a few drops of METHYL ORANGE indicator.
The solution appears YELLOW. Titrate with 0.1 N acid until the solution changes color to RED.
The ml of 0.1 N hydrochloric acid consumed in the titration indicate the points and the total alkalinity of the ULTRAFIP 601 bath. To obtain the bath concentration in g/l, multiply the points by the fixed factor of 1.33.

Power supply
The bath must be checked periodically and maintained at the set concentration with regular additions. Continuous feeding via a dosing pump ensures the best results.
For each missing point and for every 1000 liters of bath, add approximately 1,33 kg of ULTRAFIP 601.
Storage
The product in its original packaging and stored under suitable conditions (+7 ÷ 35°C) has a shelf life of 2 years from the date of production. It is recommended not to store at temperatures below 5°C to prevent freezing.
