Technical specifications
FIPRO SG 1021 is a strongly alkaline degreasing agent in powder form used in electroplating for the electrolytic degreasing of ferrous material surfaces prior to electroplating treatment.
FIPRO SG 1021 consists of a mixture of caustic alkalis, alkaline polyphosphates, sequestering and complexing agents.
Usage and Applications
FIPRO SG 1021 should be used in aqueous solution, under the following operating conditions:
Treatment time 1' ÷ 3' in cathodic phase - 30" ÷ 1' in anodic phase
Bath temperature 20 ÷ 45 °C
Liquor concentration 50 ÷ 100 g/l
Current density 5 ÷ 10 A/dm2
The optimal use values will, in any case, be fixed by Fiprokim Technical Service, on a case by case basis, during the plant start-up phase, depending on the quality and quantity of the foreign substances to be removed present on the surface of the material, the type of material to be treated and the plant itself.
BATH PREPARATION
. To prepare 1000 l of bath, add 50 to 100 kg of FIPRO SG 1021 to the tank filled with water and brought to working temperature. Keep the solution under agitation until completely homogenised and proceed to check the bath.

Bathroom control
Bath control is carried out by determination of total alkalinity, as described below:
Take 10 ml of liquor by means of a graduated pipette, place in an Erlenmeyer flask, dilute with distilled water and add a few drops of methyl orange indicator. Titrate with 1 N sulphuric (or hydrochloric) acid until the colour changes from yellow to red.
The number of ml of sulphuric (or hydrochloric) acid 1 N consumed for the colour change gives the total alkalinity of the bath.
A bath prepared at 50 g/l has a score of about 11.5, while one prepared at 100 g/l has a score of about 23.

Power supply
The bath should be checked at least once or twice a day and maintained at the concentration set at start-up. If the score falls below its initial value, add 4.3 kg of FIPRO SG 1021 to the bath for each missing point and for each 1000 l of bath.
Storage
Keep degreasing solution free of contaminants; skim or remove by overflowing any impurities such as oil or dirt floating on the surface of the bath. Before refilling the bath, remove deposits formed at the bottom of the bath.
