FIPROPHOS 505 is an iron-salt phosphating agent in powder form specially designed for the treatment of ferrous material. FIPROPHOS 505 creates an amorphous phosphatic layer on the treated surface with a predominantly iron phosphate composition and is an excellent anchoring base for liquid, powder or electrophoretic paints. Correct use of the product requires a subsequent partial continuous rinse and possibly a final rinse with demineralised water. If combined with a suitable final passivation, the results are further enhanced. FIPROPHOS 505 can be used for cleaning zinc, aluminium and its alloys.
Usage and Applications
FIPROPHOS 505 is used as a pre-painting treatment for accessory parts in the automotive industry, metal furniture appliances and, in general, sheet metal articles that are not exposed to the aggression of corrosive agents (humidity, atmospheric agents, etc.).
FIPROPHOS 505 is used where there are particular problems with foam formation in the treatment bath and/or rinses. It is used by spraying, according to the following operating parameters:
Concentration: 5 - 30 g/l (kg/1000 l)
Score: 4 - 24.3
Temperature: 35 - 70°C
Treatment time: 2 - 5 minutes
Pressure: 1 - 2 atm

BATH PREPARATION
Fill the tank with clean mains water to approximately three-quarters of its volume
. Start recirculation pumps and bring to working temperature
. Add 5 - 10 kg of FIPROPHOS 505 per 1000 l bath
Bring the bath to the exact volume and working temperature, leaving it to recirculate for 15 - 20'

Bathroom control
Take 10 ml of bath using a volumetric pipette, place in a 250 ml conical flask, add approximately 10 ml of distilled water and 3 - 5 drops of phenolphthalein indicator. Titrate with Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) 0.1 N until colourless to pink stable for at least 20".
.The number of ml of NaOH 0.1 N used to colour the sample represents the bath score.
A FIPROPHOS 505 bath prepared at a concentration of 10 g/l has a bath score of about 8.1.
Power supply
The bath is fed with FIPROPHOS 505 depending on the score (total acidity).
Approximately 1.25 kg of FIPROPHOS 505 per 1000 litres of bath is needed to increase the score value (total acidity) by 1 point.
When, after feeding the bath at the prescribed concentration, the results are no longer completely satisfactory, the bath should be completely renewed.
Storage & Warnings
The product in original packaging should preferably be stored away from moisture and in a ventilated place. Keep packaging closed to avoid packing.

The bath of FIPROPHOS 505 is slightly acidic and may cause irritation and burning to the eyes and skin. The use of suitable clothing is therefore recommended.
The bath and its rinse require purification treatment before flushing.
