FIPROPHOS 505 is a powder iron phosphating agent, specifically designed for the treatment of ferrous materials. FIPROPHOS 505 creates an amorphous phosphate layer on the treated surface, mainly composed of iron phosphates, and constitutes an excellent adhesion base for liquid, powder, or electrophoretic paints. Correct use of the product requires a subsequent rinse with continuous partial renewal and, if possible, a final rinse with demineralized water. If combined with a suitable final passivation, the results are further enhanced. FIPROPHOS 505 can be used to clean zinc, aluminum, and their alloys.
Use and Applications
FIPROPHOS 505 is used as a pre-painting treatment for accessory parts in the automotive industry, household appliances, metal furniture and, in general, sheet metal products minimally exposed to the aggression of corrosive agents (humidity, atmospheric agents, etc.).
FIPROPHOS 505 is used where there are particular problems with foam formation in the treatment bath and/or in the rinses. It is applied by spray, according to the following operating parameters:
Concentration: 5 – 30 g/l (kg/1000 l)
Points: 4 – 24.3
Temperature: 35 – 70°C
Treatment time: 2 – 5 minutes
Pressure: 1 – 2 atm

BATH PREPARATION
Fill the tank with clean mains water up to approximately three-quarters of its volume
Start the recirculation pumps and bring to the operating temperature
Add 5 – 10 Kg of FIPROPHOS 505 for every 1000 l of bath
Bring the bath to the exact volume and operating temperature, leaving it to recirculate for 15 – 20’
Perform the checks of the operating parameters (before any potential correction of the pH)

Bath control
Take 10 ml of bath using a volumetric pipette, place it in a 250 ml conical flask, add approximately 10 ml of distilled water and 3 – 5 drops of phenolphthalein indicator. Titrate with 0.1 N Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) until the color changes from colorless to a stable pink for at least 20”.
The number of ml of 0.1 N NaOH used to achieve the color change of the sample represents the bath points.
A bath of FIPROPHOS 505 prepared at a concentration of 10 g/l has a points value of approximately 8.1.
Power supply
The bath is replenished with FIPROPHOS 505 in as a function of the points (total acidity).
To increase the point value (total acidity) by 1 point, approximately 1.25 Kg of FIPROPHOS 505 is required for every 1000 liters of bath.
When, after replenishing the bath to the prescribed concentration, the results are no longer completely satisfactory, the bath must be completely renewed.
Storage & Warnings
The product in its original packaging should preferably be stored away from moisture and in a ventilated area. Keep the packaging closed to prevent caking.

The FIPROPHOS 505 bath is slightly acidic and can cause irritation and burning to the eyes and skin. The use of suitable clothing is therefore recommended.
The bath and its rinse require purification treatment before discharge.
